The number of youth engaging in premarital sexual relationship keeps increasing and there seem to be little information about HIV/AIDS, a cause for more vulnerability to multiple infections; it is reported.
Most of them do not take resolutions to protect themselves about this scourge; the district commission that fights against AIDS (CNLS) wants the youth leaders to support the cause and inform youth about AIDS.
According to Alphonsine Musabyemariya the coordinator of CNLS in Kamonyi district, the youth now start engaging in sexual intercourse at a young age as it was found out that 34percent and 39percent of girls between 15&20 years of age have engaged in sexual relationship while between 20percent and 26percent boys of the same age have also engaged in sexual relationships.
The cause for worry is that youth in this age group have no enough information about the dangers of AIDS scourge and that is the same reason to why Musabyemariya wants youth representatives to take a lead and sensitize their fellows the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
Prosper Harelimana the coordinator of National Youth Council promised his support with health levels in sensitizations about HIV/AIDS, forming anti AIDS clubs in schools and in villages where they will be teaching youth about AIDS and how they can protect themselves against it.
Youth say that circumsion as a way to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, it would be best if they could get it for free as most of them want to circumcise but lack funds.
