Though the research show that circumcising reduces the risk to get infected with HIV/AIDS, most adult men are afraid of being circumcised because they cannot get a decent and private place where the circumcision can be conducted.
The government of Rwanda has been sensitizing and calling upon all men in the country wide to circumcise and for men to be aided with the support of different organization like JHPIEGO that is based on Johns Hopkins University in the USA, the Ministry of Health (MINISANTE) and the Ministry of Defense (MINADEF).
It is now going to be working with the National Police of Rwanda so as to see that its objectives of circumcising as many men as possible achieved.
Dr. Eugene Rugwizangoga who works for JHPIEGO project said that most adult men are often afraid of circumcising because of not being comfortable with the places it is done in as when there is a certain campaign mainly the youth between 15 and10 years attend.
He went on to say that if there would be a secretive place for old men and fathers, the campaign would be attended fully as they are also concerned with it.
He also said that it would be better if hospitals and health centers that offer circumcision services would give old men they special day to be circumcised instead of letting them line up with young men who are fit to be their children so as to get these services.
The Doctor said that there are other old men who think t5hat circumcision would have side effects on them since they are aged but went on to explain that circumcision has no side effect despite the age.
Through JHPIEGO project with the support of MINADEF since towards the end of 2009 to 2012 about 11.000 men have already circumcised including soldiers and civilians. This program of circumcising men started in Rwanda after the research findings that a circumcised man has the risk of 60percent of getting affected with HIV/AIDS incase of having unprotected sex with an infected partner.
The circumcision services are given free of charge at the allocated health centers in the country.
