Kirehe District Health advisers have visited their colleagues in Bugesera district in a way of learning from them how to conserve people’s lives in their community.
This study trip was done due to the friendship that exists between the health advisors in both districts especially the health advisors in Mayange sector in Bugesera district and Gahara sector in Kirehe district.
The trip was to learn the insightful way of implementing their responsibilities and in delivering their reports on health as Théogène Rwagasore who represented health advisors from Kirehe district explained.
“They explained to us about Child Count + method which support sick children and pregnant women in Mayange sector using telephone and computer. With this method, a health worker communicates through the internet and gets the information on how to act on a certain issue and pregnant women are reminded to go for antenatal checkups or delivery period through SMS on the telephone with the computer program installed to do so.”
Théogène Rwagasore says that health advisors from Gahara sector appreciated their methods of working especially in delivering reports and they want to learn and use the same methods in their instruction.
Josette Umulisa who is in charge of the actions of health advisors in Mayange sector said that in order for the methods of instruction to be copied and used, there is a need for training especially in the use of computers and telephones and upgrading such programs.
The work and report delivery of health advisors in Mayange sector is aided by Millennium Villages’ project, a project with the objective of achieving the Millennium Developmental Goals in Mayange sector. Health advisors are given telephones to ease their communication in their work.
