Sensitization on circumcision is the most popular subject in Gashora sector in Bugesera district. Circumcision ensures hygiene of a man and reduces the risk of HIV/AIDS infection and that is the reason to why the government of Rwanda is encouraging it in its bid to reduce AIDS victims says Dr. Assouman Twagirayezu the in charge of circumcision and the deputy director of Gashora health center.

People in this Gashora sector especially the youth are participating in this program as Dr. Twagirayezu went on to explain. Circumcision reduces the risk of HIV/AIDS infection and that of Sexually Transmitted Diseases by 60percent according to the research.

“People should consider the advantages of circumcision understand that it is not only meant for Muslims as many think. Christians should know that Jesus was circumcised on the 8th after he was born besides it maintains their health and it is not painful and a person can go on with the personal business after operations.” Dr. Twagirayezu said.

Gashora Health Center devised a program to make it easier for people who need to be circumcised where it is done for free for whoever wants to circumcise and the ongoing sensitization that is done by Gashora Health center medical staff and health workers.

Jean Ntakirutimana who took a step and circumcised says he was afraid at first of circumcising as he was told that it is very painful and takes long to heal, when I got to learn the exact truth about it, I made a decision to circumcise and it was a good and painless experience.
