Residents near Akanyaru River in Kibilizi sector in Nyanza district blame mosquitoes that breed in Akanyaru swamp on Malaria outbreak.
Malaria broke out in November 2012 and became intense than previous years to an extent that residents call it a calamity.
Residents suffering from Malaria confess it has become a disaster for residents that reside around Akanyaru swamp.
Vestine Mukaruhage, a resident of Mututu cell in Mukingo sector who is attending to her sick children in Nyanza Hospital laments that malaria is affecting this area most than other areas.
She narrates that all her four children fell sick at once two weeks ago shortly after she recovered from Malaria and that it’s the case with her neighbors.
However, Mukaruhage like her neighbors are wondering what the cause of malaria outbreak might be.
Mukaruhage confirms “I did everything possible to prevent my family members from malaria but in vain. I sprayed the house, cut bushes around the home and ensured we all sleep in mosquito nets.”
Theophile Kayigambire, leader of Kibilizi sector where Akanyaru swamp is located, advises residents to sleep under treated mosquito nets and clear bushes around their homes to prevent malaria.
