Children join the fight against HIVAids

Children in Nyaruguru have been encouraged to take a lead role in fighting the spread of HIV/Aids and all sorts of child abuse in their respective communities.

The call was made by Pastor Thomas Karemera, on December 20, 2012 at the end of competitions and campaigns aimed at educating children on the HIV/Aids scourge and their rights.

The two weeks event, organized by Compassion International, was conducted by children from various sectors in Nyaruguru district. The children participated in music and dance competitions which were coined under the themes of fighting HIV/Aids and child abuse.

According to Pastor Thomas Karemera, children have the potential of positively impacting on fight against HIV/Aids and child abuse if they are able to speaking out and share the information amongst their age mates.

The participating children said that the event was an eye opening opportunity for them and they would use the chance to educate the families and colleagues in a bid to have a virus free generation and a community that respects child rights.

The best performing teams of children were also rewarded with various presents which included sporting materials and certificates.

Nyaruguru district Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Angelique Nireberaho hailed the church based organization- Compassion International, for promoting such initiatives among children.
