Rwanda | Gatsibo: Vasectomy campaign in progress; more men volunteer

Sensitization about vasectomy as a method of family planning program for men has been going on among the people of Gatsibo district starting from 10th.Dec.2012 more men appeared for the program after thorough explanations on  the advantages of family planning and disadvantages of giving birth to too many children. 

Vasectomy campaign in progress; more men volunteerDr. Christophe Rushanika a doctor in Byumba Hospital one of the doctors who initiated the program of vasectomy in Rwanda says that they are now in Gatsibo district for a period of 2 weeks and they have already given their services to 30 men.

Dr. Rushanika says that the number of men who are attending the vasectomy program is increasing as in June they were 2500 men who had participated in it and now the number is slightly about 2900 men who prefer this method of family planning.

Calixte Musafili a resident of Remera sector in Gatsibo district is one of the men who applied vasectomy for the last two years and now peace and tranquility is reigning in his home since he had given birth to 4 children consecutively when the wife had refused family planning saying it makes one handicapped.

Vasectomy is surgical procedure that removes all or part of the duct that carries sperms from the epithelial duct to the ejaculatory duct usually as a means of sterilization and a man cannot make a woman pregnant.
