Sensitise the men you have sex with to circumcise, Edouard Muhima Ruhayisha; worker at National Aids Control Commission in Kayonza district has advised sex workers in Kayonza district.
This comes after most prostitutes have suffered from HIV/Aids and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) due to having unprotected sex with rich men who offer them a lot of money.
To women prostitutes, it’s easy to accept unprotected sex with men who are willing to pay extra money compared to what they charge other men and end up in bigger problems such as Aids.
Though circumcision doesn’t stop one from contracting HIV/Aids, it protects him or her from Aids 60 percent.
This is because the male organ hardens after circumcision and cannot easily get bruised during sexual intercourse while uncircumcised male organ easily gets wounded and contract HIV/Aids.
However, prostitutes in Kayonza district confess that they can’t know if the man is circumcised or not because they have sex in dark places, besides their aim is to make money.
We are going to start talking about circumcision with their customers and whoever will feel it’s right will do it, says Jeannine Mukamuvunyi; a prostitute in Kabare sector of Kayonza district.
