Nyabihu: Prostitution leads to an increase of HIV/AIDS

 Prostitution is continuously being identified as the main accelerator of HIV/AIDS new infections in Nyabihu District, Sostene Nzitonda the coordinator of CDLS in Nyabihu district said that resolutions have been put in place to reduce new infections.

According to the research done in this district about Prostitution, 117 people confirmed doing prostitution. A program to eradicate prostitution in Nyabihu district is already in place from its source Sostene Nzitonda goes explains.

Attention has to be given to the prostitutes, encourage them to stop prostitution and do something else. Places like bars, lodges, and streets in Nyabihu district where prostitutes find refuge to prostitute will be put into consideration.

Nzitonda also explained that in 2013, campaigns to reduce the new infections of AIDS by sensitizing the infected not to pass AIDS on. Youth are therefore supposed to participate in these programs well knowing they are Rwanda’s future who should be on the top of this fight.

Apart from the youth, every individual should feel that prevention of HIV/AIDS is a necessity and protect others. This will make people healthy and work hard towards long lasting development.

Of Nyabihu district’s population, 2500 people are HIV/AIDS positive.
