He has asked all sectors’ executive secretaries to write and identify the mentally sick people in their sectors as the first step to solve this problem.
The problem of mentally ill people in Gakenke District who destroy people’s property, cause insecurity, beat up people and even rape young girls will soon be solved, according to the mayor of Gakenke Deo Nzamwita.
The mayor stressed out that mentally ill people are people like others and need extra attention and this will be done by identifying them and the district providing for them a vehicle to transport them to Ndera Psychiatric Hospital.
The mayor explained that some of the mentally illnesses are caused by family problems and local leaders should solve problems and conflicts in the families before they affect people into madness. Local people were also advised to take the mentally ill for treatment as soon as they recognize that something is wrong before the illness becomes permanent.
The executive secretaries of the sectors were reminded to keep up the sensitization program to the people to participate in mutuelle de santé (Medical Insurance) without hurting anyone during the process to achieve 80% of the people in the program by the end of February 2013.
Only 71% of Gakenke district populations participate in Mutuelle de Sante program.
