Men in Nyabihu district are urged to embrace family planning. It was identified that some men do not support their wives in family planning which hinders development among homes.

Though men do not have interest in family planning like women, a few men in Nyabihu district who embraced the program talked to this website.

“Family planning is important for our families. It helps one give birth to the children he can easily take care of,” said Emmanuel Niyibizi, a resident

“We should think of our financial capacity before having children. However, men are slowly embracing family planning,” disclosed Pascal Umukunzi, a parent

 “The rate of family planning coverage will keep increasing if men embrace the program” said Pierre Dusenge, in charge of health in Nyabihu district.

According to the districts statistics, family planning coverage increased from 7 per cent to 40 percent in the last seven years.

Family planning is the planning of when to have children and the use of birth control and other techniques to implement such plans. Family planning is among the most cost-effective of all health interventions.

Family planning methods reduce unintended pregnancy as well as a reduction in transmission of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

The government of Rwanda is sensitizing residents to embrace family planning.
