Karongi district in partnership with Imbuto foundation launched a 3 month health program, educating local leaders on sensitizing residents against contracting HIV/AIDS as a way to cub down new infections of the virus.
The ‘Nkuyobore Ku Buzima’ campaign literally meaning ‘let me guide you to life’ started in Ruganda sector, on the 10 January,2014 with about 2000 local leaders under the theme; “my role as a leader in preventing youth from contracting HIV/AIDS.”
Local leaders were training for a day about HIV/AIDS.
According to Hellene Mukamurara Rutamu the Imbuto Foundation representative,
“The role of leaders is to protect their subjects against HIV. Parents should be urged to discuss reproductive health with their children,” Hellen Mukamurara Rutamu, a representavive of Imbuto Foundation cautioned.
Participants requested for the program to be held at least once each year, so as to remind leaders of their central role in fighting HIV/AIDS among residents.
Imbuto Foundation features health programs, fighting HIV/AIDS in about 12 districts of Rwanda. According to the foundation’s Mukamurara Rutamu, 16 out of the 2706 people are HIV positive.
