Authorities of Nyamagabe district have announced that they have managed to immunize a total of 3976 children in the just concluded year which is about 59 percent of the number of children in the district. They are targeting about 7,000 children this year.
According to the Health official in Nyamagabe district Collette Kayitesi, they hope to be through with the immunizations by November this year. Nyamagabe is among the districts with the highest number of children who die as a result of malnutrition.
To fight the malnutrition problem, the district was put under the One Pint of Milk per Child pilot programme. The programme is done in partnership with the Ministries of Education, Agriculture and Health to try and improve the health in lower primary schools by providing milk three times a week.
The district has also invested in the campaign to encourage people to grow nutritious domestic gardens as a way of fighting the problem.
