The Number of people paying for Mutuelle de Sante in Nyabihu District has greatly decreased according to the 2012-2013 performance contract presentation in the District.
The presentation revealed that only 62 percent of the population has so far subscribed to the Health insurance of 2013-2014.
Nyabihu district has about 295.580 people and about 65.387 households. It is estimated that there are 556 people per kilometer squared most of whom do not pay the medical health care.
Explaining why the number of people contributing to insurance is still low, John Bagirishya the district director of mituelle de santé said that they still had time for this and he hoped that people will contribute because most of them expected better harvest from their crops.
“Because of the constant encouragement to people to pay up for the medical insurance which is mostly done by local leaders, am very hopeful that the percentage will go higher by the end of December”, said Bagirishya.
He added that leaders had several meetings and retreats with religious leaders and other local leaders from sectors and cells aiming at encouraging people to pay for the health insurance.
“Through the performance contracts signed by cells and sector executive secretaries about paying the remaining half of the contribution by the end of December, Barigishya believes this will be met.
It is believed that most people will be able to get money to contribute to the insurance t the end of the planting season,” said Barigishya.
