Butare University Hospital (CHUB) started offering internal scanner services on the 16th,12, 2013. This comes as a solution to patients who had to travel to Kigali for scanning services. The equipment has helped at least 20 patients, within just one week of operation, this highlights the need. The scanner equipment was provided to CHUB Butare by the Ministry of Health on the financial support of Global Fund. It is worth US$460 000.
The University Hospital hopes to deliver better services with the aid of the new equipment.
“The equipment will help doctors in identifying different diseases and ailments affecting patients, without having to send them to Kigali,” explains Dr. Augustin Sendegeya, acting Director of CHUB.
Such scanning equipment is only available in 3 hospitals in Rwanda, namely; CHUK Kigali, King Faysal Hospital Kigali and now CHUB Butare.
“I am so grateful to the government of Rwanda for thinking about our health and giving us the equipment,” says Gerald Rwajekare, a patient who has used the scanner.
The equipment cost US$460 000.
Going through the scanner costs between Rwf 45000 and Rwf150 000 depending on the kind of examinations to be done.
