Residents in Mukama sector of Nyagatare district commend community health workers for sensitizing men on being part of the family development.
Before some men thought children’s development concerns mothers alone and would leave everything at home for the women.
With sensitization from Community health workers, some men are taking part in helping their wives with sick children and some chores like cooking for children.
Community health workers educate residents on fighting diseases, maintaining hygiene, preparing nutritious meals to fight malnutrition and above all encourage men to assist wives in caring for the family.
“When my wife is busy with other chores or sick, I cook for the children. This is because health workers made me understand it’s my role too to be part of family activities,” said Jean Paul Harerimana; a resident in Gishororo cell.
“After talking to community health workers, my husband focused on cleanliness of the home especially the toilet,” narrated Jeannette Uwizeye, a resident.
“Families are now united and stronger. We managed to reduce on malaria spread as well as deaths of mothers and infants,” revealed Jeremie Ngerageze, one of the health workers.
Apart from family promotion and health, health community workers formed a pineapple growing cooperative to enable them achieve fast social development.
